I came across an interesting article today, about plans to launch a new metro weekday newspaper in Perth, to be distributed at train stations in the afternoon much like Sydney and Melbourne’s mX.
While this won’t really affect newsagents, there is a poll included at the bottom of the article, and the results are most interesting. Of the 1824 who had responded at the time this blogpost was published, 60% believed a second daily paper in Perth could succeed, while only 18% stated they would not read a newspaper in this online age. Somewhat surprising statistics, in this day and age.
Just a few minutes ago, we received an announcement of another print launch—homes+, by Bauer Media. Sitting alongside existing Bauer titles Belle, Australian House & Garden and real living, this new title will be aimed at home decorators and renovators.
Print may be in decline, but by the look of things, it will be around and in demand for quite some time yet.
