ABC results released today saw every national and metro masthead experience a Year-on-Year (YoY) decline.
The Australian posted a YoY decline of 6.7%, while the Weekend Australian followed closely with a YoY decline of 6.1%.
News Corp’s Herald-Sun and Sunday Herald-Sun both saw YoY declines of 7.9%, with the Saturday Herald-Sun posting a decline of 8.3%.
Fairfax Media’s The Age saw a YoY decline of 18.3%, with the Saturday and Sunday editions posting declines of 8% and 10.5% respectively.
Fairfax Media’s Sydney Morning Herald saw a 13% YoY decline, while the Sun Herald posted a decline of 14%.
The West Australian posted the lowest YoY decline of all the weekday metro titles (4.8%).
Interestingly, digital subscriptions have also begun to decline – the Herald Sun has become the first masthead to record a quarter-on-quarter decline in digital sale, with the number of subscribers to its paywall falling by 1.85%.
