Be alert – look after your security

Two articles in national newspapers this week highlight the need for newsagents to check security, train staff and implement security procedures. “She’ll be right” is not good enough. With more people in shopping centres as Christmas approaches and more money in tills, this can be a time when robbers take any opportunity to rob.

Police are searching for a man who robbed a Charters Towers newsagency on Sunday night in north Queensland.

The man was armed with a knife when he entered the Gill Street business about 8:00 pm and fled the store with some cash after threatening the male staff member.

An Avoca Beach newsagent in NSW was held up with a samurai sword and gun. The pair, who had their faces concealed, assaulted the man before fleeing empty-handed.

There are probably many more incidents. Take the time to hold a staff meeting about security.
